Not taking a vacation this summer?

My name is Kelly Dwyer. I'm a reporter with the Denver Post and I cover workplace issues. A few new reports show workers are taking fewer vacation days. I've already interviewed a few people but need a few more. Would you like to take vacation this summer but feel pressure at work not to? Or do you feel you can't afford to? Please call me or email me. My deadline for this story is Thursday (June 17) evening. Thanks much!

    Kelly

Reply: I work for a loss adjuster in the UK. Taking off holiday is just not possible, when you know that you will have to work 5-6 weeks to catch up with the stress of the backlog. Recent suggestions for regulatory reform on UK working hours does not simply cut it against the need for employees to do the work. There is the bit in the contract of empoloyment which states "time as is necessary to do the job" or words to this effect. This effectively means work the hours or looese your job no matter how many hours you work.
