    Turning Around A Problem Employee

"Question: I have an employee who has some productivity and behavior problems. I've put off dealing with it because I thought the problems would resolve themselves. But now the rest of the people on my staff have begun to feel resentful. What should I do?"

Procrastination is my middle name, and I've done the same thing in a similar situation. The problem has mushroomed as a result. My circumstance is somewhat different, because my employee's productivity is great. But her abrasive, bullying approach to co-workers and customers is so inherent in her personality that I'm at something of a loss. I have decided that the only way to deal with her is to be completely direct and honest, and to do it at the time an incident happens. I will of course do it privately, but from now on I am resolved to speak to her about EVERY incident. My approach will be to help her see things from the other person's perspective. I wish you AND ME luck!
