On office politics and why our longing now centers on respect. We live in times of tremendous stress. We are at war literally - and my belief is that it has impacted everyone so deeply that we aren't even able to express it-or possibly we don't even realize we are so affected by it. Respect, in and of itself, is treating the next guy or gal that we work with (and in general) as human beings. There is no law or employment rule that says we MUST like the people we work with. At the age of 53, I can say that after 'paying my dues', so to speak - in my younger days at work, I've found myself working now with younger people. I'm not bashing younger. I remember how invinsible I felt back then. But I don't remember ever treating my co-workers badly. I currently am working with a young woman (28) who is very competent in the job. But, she feels for whatever reason that ignoring me, (and now I know why others have quit recently), it seems to be her 'style'. It's sutle-but ignoring a co-worker, and deliberatly not training them throughly shouldn't be tolerated by the employer. The one thing I truly believe in is 'Karma'. Not in the mystical or fanatical way of thinking. What we put out there, we will get back. So, for me - RESPECT is something I strongly believe we owe each other, and we owe it to ourselves too. Life truly is very short. We need to treat each other with Respect. We are all 'here' for the same reasons. Any other thougths on this subject of Respect??
