Can't get a break with poor management!

Our former boss (female) recently left for another position. Our office was her first supervisory position. She had no clue what any of us did and never bothered to learn WHAT we do. She was a social butterfly spending her days with select employees in her office giggling and gossiping. Those employees who were part of her "posse" got away with murder, while the rest of us (who don't choose to brown-nose) got stuck doing all the work. She would appoint 1 person from each different area to be her "spy". This person was to tell her whenever the rest of us did something wrong.

Fast forward to her eventually leaving for another position and now we have a new (male) boss who doesn't know our jobs either. Nor does he care what we do. So he appoints a "spy" to inform him of everyone's business. Same ole thing once again.

I have never been a part of "brown-nosing", just wasn't raised that way. The people in our office who do brown-nose, incidently, are those who are the worst workers, late every morning, off sick regularly and those who just plain don't do squat. They are the ones who need the brownie-points. The rest of us have a good work ethic, therefore, brown-nosing is of no added value to us.

My question is: how does a GOOD WORKER get ahead if they are not willing to play the brown-nose game? I am doing 3 times the work as everyone else!

Reply: I've never brown nosed either and I never will. If my job performance isn't good enough, then tough luck for the company. A possible solution to your problem would be to arrange a meeting with your new boss - as a group of the good and hard working employeed. Air your concerns with this new boss and let him know that the others are doing very little or nothing on the job. If you boss doesn't seem to care, remember he has a boss too - you could go higher up in the chain of command. Maybe he needs to get some 'walking papers'. If your new boss is indifferent to your concerns, then I'd suggest that you all have new jobs to go to. I think the saying, 'there's power in numbers' is true. How sweet it would be if you could walk away from this place - in droves! Good luck
