    My Boss Gets Drunk and Shoves Employees

    I work in a restaurant and what drama we have. The most surrounding our General Manager.

    The GM routinely comes into work drunkon his off hours. And when I mean drunk, I'm saying one more drink would surely put him over the edge. He also conducts company business: Talking with guests, assisting servers-- giving direction to staff...

    The last time he came in drunk,he was upset with a servers performance and shoved him by his shoulders through the kitchen doors and into the dish area screaming obscenities. He told the server he sucked and was going to be fired.

    a handful of servers, most of the kitchen staff and two managers saw this take place, yet they are all afraid to report him to the owner for fear that they will lose their jobs.

    What do I do?

    Reply: What do YOU do? It's not up to you to solve the situation described in your post. The GM didn't shove you, he shoved a co-worker. If the co-worker that was physically assaulted by the GM wants to file charges, the sooner the better. If the witnesses don't want to talk - that's their cowardly business. One of them might be next. Who will they turn to then? The saying, 'there's power in numbers', I believe, is accurate with this situation. Your co-worker doesn't necessarily need the witnesses to back up his side of it. Where do you all work anyway? Hell's Kitchen? Employees do not have to tolerate physical or verbal abuse by a manager or anyone else for that matter. If you all banded together as a team, assuming you routinely work as a team, you would all feel less vulnerable on the job. Stick up for each other. You're all in the same sinking ship. I sincerely wish for all of you a better working atmosphere. Good Luck!
