Reply: First, you would need to determine, with the assistance of your doctor, if your arthritis was caused as a result of your work. In order to 'retire' based on health issues, that would depend on your current age, (for Social Security benefits), if your doctor deems in writing that you are permantly and totaly disabled and what caused it or made it worse, etc. You would also need proof that you are unable to do ANY type of substantial/gainful work. Have you considered training for another line of work? If you're doctor declares that your arthritis was caused at you current job, your employer may be required to pay for that. Are you on a temporay leave; have you filed for Worker's Compensation? Talk to your doctor about your options. You may need a lawyer as well.
